About Nylons
Real nylons – enchant a woman’s legs with delicate sensuality
There is nothing that reflects sensuality and eroticism more than a woman in real, incomparable nylon stockings.
What are real nylons and where does this term come from?
Back in the 1950s, seamed nylons, then known as “English nylons”, were a symbol of sensuality and incomparable eroticism. This decade is simply the centerpiece in the history of nylons. In the post-war period, nylons were traded like stocks today, and those who couldn’t afford them painted the obligatory seam on their bare leg with black pencil. We at “Vicky’s Nylons” leave the pencil behind and put the finest yarn in your shopping cart instead.
Before the invention of tights, which became a hit thanks to the mini skirt, there were only nylon stockings available on the market. However, as the nylon stockings did not look really suitable under the short mini skirt, the “normal” tights were able to assert themselves. As a result, tights became increasingly popular and the classic nylon stocking went out of fashion. For this reason, more and more manufacturers switched from nylons to tights and nylon production was more or less discontinued.

With great attention to detail and a commitment to excellence, we create spaces that inspire, enhance and enrich the lives of the people who inhabit them.
Before tights, the classic nylon stockings were still made on a flatbed knitting machine that could only produce 15 pairs per hour. – Today, there are only 3 manufacturers worldwide who still maintain and operate the original machines from back then and still use them to produce nylon stockings, just as they did in the 1950s! And these classic nylon stockings are available right here at Vickys-Nylons!
Our Fully-Fashioned or “Classic” nylons are made with the finest yarn at the highest level using traditional methods. The perfect replication and the incomparable look make up the 50s look of the “Vintage Nylons”. Vicky’s “Classic” nylons are a throwback to the nostalgic charm of the era, with authenticity and attention to detail. Each “Vintage Nylon” is inspected and tested five times during the manufacturing process to ensure outstanding quality.

Vicky’s “Classic” Nylons
Vicky’s “Classic” nylons are made from just one piece of nylon flat on an original “Reading” knitting machine and then sewn together. This is how nylons were made in the 50s. A maximum of 15 pairs are produced per hour! Vicky’s “Classic” nylons are then steamed into a perfect fit on original 1950 “Heliot” steam machines.
Nylons
If there are real nylons, are there also “fake” nylons?
There is a wide selection of “nylons” on the market, making it difficult for customer to understand which are really special and which are not. However, the decisive factor in good nylons is not only the material, but above all the manufacturing process and the quality of the yarn. It makes a noticeable and visible difference. Quality is very important for real nylons. Hard to believe, there are also so-called “nylons” with Lycra! Stay away from them, disappointment is inevitable! Gio and Eleganti from England only produce real nylons.
The special production of our nylons is very complex and takes place in several steps, just the same methods as 60 years ago. But it is these processes which make the decisive difference and promises the superb look on the legs and quality:
.At the beginning of the manufacturing process, the nylons are white and more or less colorless. Each fully fashioned stocking is sewn together by hand by an experienced seamstress. The “keyhole” at the top of the stocking is a result of the manufacturing process and is created by the seamstress finishing the seam by turning the stocking in a welt.
Next, the stockings are dyed and dried in large vats.
Although the stockings are knitted to the shape of a woman’s leg, they are attached to a preformed leg of a mannequin and steamed at a high temperature to firm the knit and define the incomparable shape of the leg. In addition, any wrinkles are removed. – These type of stocking is known as “fully fashioned”.
Finally, each stocking is checked again in a quality control process and then matched with a stocking of identical size to the pair and carefully packed by hand for sale.
Different styles of fully fashioned nylons
There are four different types of reinforcements for the heel of a stocking; they are used to prevent runs and ladder, and of course to please the eye. In principle, there are several styles of heel reinforcement on the market. They are all based on a small triangular reinforcement that protrudes slightly over the back of the ankle. All styles are shown below:
French or point heel: “Point heel” or “French heel” is sometimes also referred to as “swing heel”. It consists of a basic triangle, the point of which merges into the seam of the sock.
Cuban/ Cuban Heel: It is similar in shape to the French heel, but the Cuban heel is flat at the point.
Havana Heel: This style is similar to the Cuban heel in shape, but the Havana heel is slightly wider than the Cuban heel.
Manhattan Heel: This heel is similar to the Cuban heel, but the Manhattan heel is decorated with an additional row of stitching, reminiscent of the image of a Manhattan skyscraper.
Anatomy of the nylons
The seductive little difference: finishing loop and welt.
Welt: The term “welt” refers to a reinforced area at the upper edge of the stocking where the stocking is attached to the suspender belt. As a rule, the fabric has double-thickness so that the clip is reinforced and cannot tear.
Finishing loop: This is an opening at the top of the seam with which the seamstress closes the seam on the world.
Run Guard: A narrow strip underneath the welt that prevents runs and ladder from expanding upwards quickly.
Reinforced heel, toe and foot (RHT): Much of the wear and tear on hosiery occurs where the toes touch the shoe; good hosiery is made with additional reinforcement to increase durability. This reinforcement starts in the toe area and continues under the ball of the foot to the heel and up into the calf in the seam. These reinforced socks are called RHT socks (Reinforced Heel and Toe).
